Traffic classification
Traffic categories describe the system’s assessment of a visit. They are not proof of a person’s intent or employer.

Categories in context
| Category | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Real | No fraud classification established from the available signals. |
| Crawler | Recognized automated crawling activity, handled separately from malicious traffic. |
| Bot | Signals consistent with automation or bot activity. |
| Competitor | Patterns consistent with suspicious repeat clicking; not identification of a company. |
| Click Farm | Patterns consistent with coordinated artificial activity. |
Classification and enforcement are different
A label and a threat score add context. The actual action also depends on your settings, evidence, whitelists and safety gates.
Recognized legitimate crawlers have protection paths designed to avoid blocking them. Recognition can still fail; investigate unexpected crawler blocks rather than assuming every crawler is permanently trusted.
False positives are possible. Inspect the reason and available evidence, adjust the relevant settings and whitelist a known legitimate visitor when appropriate.
Frequently asked questions
Does a competitor label identify a business?
No. It describes a traffic assessment. AdProtektor does not establish which company a visitor works for.
Should every crawler be blocked?
No. Recognized legitimate crawlers are treated separately. Inspect the activity and your controls when a classification looks wrong.
